When it comes to choosing a moisturiser that works for you, don’t overlook lotion moisturisers. They tend to have a slightly runnier texture than a cream, but it doesn’t mean they’re any less effective at quenching dry skin.
What’s in a Moisturising Lotion?
Like all other types of moisturiser, a lotion has a blend of occlusive, humectant, and emollient ingredients to create a unique formula that softens and nourishes your skin. Each different moisturiser’s formula is tailored to firstly hydrate, but can also be formulated with active ingredients to amp up the benefits of that specific product.
If meant for use in the daytime, a facial lotion might also include SPF ingredients to protect skin from harsh, wrinkle-causing UV rays. If formulated to fight off early signs of ageing or undo sun damage, it might include Vitamin C and other antioxidants.
Moisturising Lotion vs. Cream
Of all the different moisturisers to choose from, here’s why you’d choose a moisturising lotion instead of a cream. If you have normal to combination skin, a lotion hits the sweet spot of being super moisturising without feeling like it’s too heavy for your skin.
Well-formulated facial lotions sink into your skin without a trace, with none of the heaviness of a cream. Depending on the formula, a lotion is great for oily skin types, too!
If you wanted, you could even use a lotion as your daytime moisturiser, and use a cream or oil at night. Using heavier moisturisers at night helps your skin rejuvenate itself after a long day - taking advantage of your skin’s natural processes means you can take your skincare routine to the next level.
